7 Ways To Stay Spotless With Pets

Making a rental feel like a home can be tricky, especially with lease agreements and landlord rules limiting your decorating options. You might be unable to update wallpaper, molding, flooring, or even paint colors. But don’t worry; you can still add your personal touch with a few innovative design ideas. These tips will help you fill your rental with style and personality, from small accessories to big furniture pieces.

1. Open It Up with Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are perfect for showing off your collectibles and souvenirs. Stagger them for a unique look and easily update your display whenever possible. Whether you choose wood, metal, stainless steel, painted shelves, or inexpensive MDF, you can match your style.

2. Make a Statement with Furniture

Even if you’re stuck with basic apartment finishes, you can still have fabulous furniture. Fill your space with pieces you love to make it your own. Pick a standout piece for each room, like a stunning mustard-yellow sofa or a midcentury modern coffee table, and you’ll quickly forget about any less-than-ideal features.

3. Update an Apartment Entryway

If your apartment lacks a designated entry, create your dropzone with a few wall-mounted pieces. Hang hooks for hats, purses, or light jackets, and choose a unit with a shelf on top for grab-and-go items like keys and sunglasses. Finish the setup with a large mirror for last-minute touch-ups before you head out. If you can’t screw into the walls, use adhesive-back hooks. Add baskets below the hooks for bigger items like umbrellas or dog leashes.

4. Maximize Small Kitchen Storage

Apartments often have tiny kitchens, so make the most of your vertical space. Use open shelves to stack dishes and keep items together. Place lesser-used items on the upper shelves to avoid clutter and make the space feel larger.

5. Use Peel-and-Stick Tiles

Non-permanent decorating ideas are essential for rentals. Try peel-and-stick tiles if you want to add patterned tile to your bathroom but can’t make permanent changes. They’re easy to apply and remove. Choose a small area, like the wall above the sink, to keep costs low. Use the design as inspiration for other bath features like towels, washcloths, and shelving.

I hope these ideas help you make your rental feel like home! Hats
